This policy applies to the Android app Checkpit (formerly Oilbook), a car maintenance and fuel log that works offline, and to the Checkpit community board in the app (Community tab) and on the web (thunder-punch.github.io/oilbook/community). It is operated by Twobridges, an individual developer. Contact: [email protected]. Our website thunder-punch.github.io/checkpit has no cookies or analytics. Like any website, its host (GitHub Pages) receives your IP address. Our official Checkpit pages on Facebook, X, and YouTube are run under those services' own privacy policies.
The app is distributed only through Google Play. Launch countries are the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Mexico.
This document is our Privacy Policy. In line with Google Play's User Data policy, it explains what data the app accesses, collects, uses, and shares.
1. Summary
- If you use the app without signing in, your vehicle, fuel, service, expense, and reminder records stay only on your device. If you sign in, a backup copy of your records is kept in your account on Google Cloud Firestore so you can restore it.
- Signing in with Google is optional. You can use the app without an account. If you sign in, your name, email address, and account ID are held by Google Firebase to manage your account. We never ask for your phone number.
- The app shows ads from Google AdMob. To show and measure ads, Google collects some device information, including your device's advertising ID. Service reminder cards may also show Find parts shopping links marked Ad (Section 5).
- To measure our ads on Facebook and Instagram, the app can tell Meta when it is installed and opened, together with your advertising ID. This is on by default only in the United States, Canada, and Australia, and you can turn it off in Settings → Privacy (Section 5).
- Usage analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase) is on by default in the United States, Canada, Australia, and Mexico, and off by default elsewhere, including the United Kingdom. While Share usage data is on, the app sends which screens you open, which main actions and features you use, and your app settings. You can turn it off at any time in Settings → Privacy. It never sends what you type or your advertising ID.
- The Checkpit community board (the app's Community tab, and on the web) is optional. Anyone can read it. To post you sign in and pick a nickname; your posts, comments, and photos are public and are stored on Google Firebase, and new posts and comments are checked automatically with Google's Gemini AI. See Section 15.
- Extra vehicle slots are optional one-time purchases through Google Play. Google handles payment; we never see your card details. See Section 16.
- If you sign in and write to us from Settings → Contact the developer, we keep your message, the email address you choose to give, and our replies so we can answer you, and you can read the replies in Settings → My inquiries. See Section 18.
- When the app starts, it checks Google Firebase Remote Config for a short notice from us (for example, news about an update). This does not include your records or your account ID. See Section 4.
- The app may send you an occasional car care tip as a notification (about once a month) through Google Firebase Cloud Messaging. You can turn this off in Settings → Notifications. See Section 4.
- If you sign in, your account information, cloud backup, and anything you post on the community board are stored on Google servers in the United States.
- You can fill in entries from a photo of a receipt or your dashboard. Unless you turn off Smart receipt reading, receipt photos are read by Google AI (Google's Gemini API) and discarded after reading, never stored by us; without a connection, or with the switch off, your phone reads them instead. Dashboard photos are read only on your device (Section 4).
- The app does not request location, camera, contacts, or storage permissions.
